The infection affects tissues beneath the skin. Risk factors include skin wounds or a weakened immune system, which allow bacteria to enter easily. Cellulitis is generally not contagious, except rarely through open-wound contact with an infected person.

General Mamady Doumbouya has been elected president of Guinea with 86.72% of the vote in provisional results. He seized power in a 2021 coup, ousting President Alpha Conde. His victory grants him a seven-year mandate and avoids a runoff. The election follows a constitutional change allowing junta members to run. Guinea is rich in bauxite and untapped iron ore, and Doumbouya has promoted resource-nationalist policies.

Researchers have discovered the world’s oldest known rock art on Muna Island, Indonesia, in the form of a painted human hand outline dating back at least 67,800 years. Muna Island is located in Southeast Sulawesi Province and covers about 1,704 square kilometres. The island has a hilly landscape with elevations up to 445 metres and is known for its teak forests, rich culture, natural beauty, and clean beaches.
